The Recreation & Leisure Services Committee serves to
strengthen the Recreation and Leisure services for all New Maryland
residents. This shall include the social, cultural, and physical
aspects of recreation.
Responsibilities Goals and Objectives
The
Recreation and Leisure Services Committee shall:
Provide
advice, support, guidance, and assistance to the Village of New
Maryland Council on matters pertaining to the goals, objectives,
practices, policies, and strategic direction, as outlined in the current
and proposed Recreation and Leisure Services planning documents such
as the Village of New Maryland Strategic Plan as well as the
Recreation and Leisure Services Master Plan.
Serve as a
liaison and advise Council on matters pertaining to the effective
and efficient delivery and management of recreation and leisure
services, facilities, programs, and special events
Review and advise on recreation and leisure needs of the community
Provide community perspective on recreation and
leisure services
Foster public awareness,
recognition, and support for Recreation and Leisure services
Foster partnerships and network with community groups,
individuals and other municipalities, including Local Service Districts
Provide input to the Recreation Coordinator during the
annual budget process including operating and capital expenses
Carry out any additional duties as required by Council
Membership
Two (2) members of Council (one will serve as the Chair
and the other will serve as the Co-Chair).
Up to six (6) Village
residents (membership will be divided in order to strive for a
balance between sport/recreation, arts and culture representation)
Village Staff: Recreation Coordinator, Communities Facilities
Manager, and other staff as circumstances require. Appointed staff
has a voice but no vote.
All members are approved by the Mayor of
the Village of New Maryland.
Reporting Requirements and Methods
The Committee reports directly to the Council of the Village of New
Maryland.
The Committee Chair shall bring forward the Committees’
recommendations to the Council of the Village of New Maryland for
approval and or support.
Code of Conduct
All committee members,
be it Village employees or volunteers, shall be guided by the
Village of New Maryland’s policies and procedures including the code
of conduct, confidentiality, and workplace harassment policies.
Meeting Schedule
Regular meetings will be held on the last Monday of
each month and or as required. Meetings will be called by the Chair
or the Recreation Coordinator.
