Frank C. Dunn, Mayor Frank Dunn was excited and pleased to be elected to the very first New Maryland council back in 1991, when the village was incorporated, and his dedication to the community has never wavered. Frank is now in his third term as mayor, but he first “learned the ropes” by serving on council committees; he chaired the pivotal Finance and Administration Committee for nine years, before moving on to the mayoralty. Although a native of Cape Breton, he has no regrets about having moved to New Maryland in 1984. Frank and his wife Kaye believe New Maryland to be a very special place, a community that has a “country” feel to it, but benefits from the cosmopolitan influence of being only five kilometres from the city of Fredericton. They feel their six children and 10 grandchildren have benefited as well from having established strong roots in the area. Mayor Dunn is a graduate of St. Francis Xavier Junior College (now the University of Cape Breton), and thereafter spent 30 years in the banking industry; he is a Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers (F.I.C.B.). He retired from banking in 1986, but then moved on to a 10-year position with the University of New Brunswick’s Department of Development and Community Relations. Aside from his mayoral duties, Frank is currently serving on the board of directors of the Union of New Brunswick Municipalities, and also the board of directors of the Muriel McQueen Fergusson Foundation. He served for three terms on the New Brunswick Municipal Pension Board, and five years on the board of directors of the Canadian Association of Gift Planners; that organization has more than 1,500 members. |
