Gisèle McCaie-Burke, Councillor

Gisèle McCaie-Burke has been a resident of New Maryland since 1995; she was elected to the village council in the May 12, 2008 municipal election. While this is her first foray into municipal politics, she has been taking an active role in community betterment for more than 30 years.

Her past volunteer activities have included: president of the New Brunswick Association of Dietitians; president, Canadian Diabetes Association-NB Division; director, National Board of the Canadian Diabetes Association; president, the Breastfeeding Committee for Canada; director, Big Brothers–Big Sisters; director, Bathurst Volunteer Centre & Food Bank; trustee, School District #42; founder, Bathurst School Milk Fund.

Gisèle’s educational background includes a Bachelor degree in Nutritional Science, l’Université de Moncton; dietetic internship, Montreal Diet Dispensary; Master’s degree in Adult Education, University of New Brunswick.

Councillor McCaie-Burke’s career experience of some 30 years in the dietetic/nutrition field has been considerable. Her job postings with the provincial Department of Health have included: regional public health nutritionist; dietitian, Extra Mural program; departmental nutrition consultant, and project manager. After being retired for a few years from the health field, Gisèle has recently returned to a part time post with Statistics Canada as Senior Interviewer, Fredericton region.

In her leisure time, Gisèle enjoys spending time with her husband Ray, family and friends, reading, cooking, gardening, travelling and researching genealogy.
