 Assistant Clerk

The Village of New Maryland is a growing community with many new and exciting projects taking place.  We are currently in search of an Assistant Clerk to join our team and help support our Council and staff to meet the needs and expectations of our community.

Position Summary:  Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)/Clerk, the primary functions will be to assist the Clerk in providing governance and legislative guidance to Council, assist Council in procedure and protocol matters, and maintain records of Council and Council-In-Committee meetings. The Assistant Clerk will help create an engaging, supportive and collaborative environment while ensuring compliance with Village policies, standard practices and legislation. Qualifications:

  • Relevant post-secondary diploma and local governance experience;
  • Three to five years of relevant work experience in organizing and coordinating meetings, preparing agendas and taking minutes, establishing and maintaining record systems, and handling public inquiries; and
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • An understanding of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, protocols, rules and regulations concerning the structure and functioning of municipal government;
  • Knowledge of record management and retrieval systems, procedures, and practices;
  • Skill in using office equipment, computers and software (Microsoft Office programs);
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills;
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in writing or editing documents;
  • Ability to adapt to and work effectively within a variety of situations and groups;
  • Research and analysis skills;
  • Planning and organizational skills;
  • Excellent time and stress management skills;
  • Teamwork and relationship-building skills; and
  • Bilingualism will be considered an asset.

Salary:  $50,926-$65,477 plus a generous benefits package and room to grow.

Working conditions:  This is an in-person position in New Maryland, NB.   Work is required some evenings or weekends to attend meetings and/or community events.
