The Village of New Maryland is pleased to announce the completion and adoption of the Village’s first Recreation Master Plan. The New Maryland Council formally adopted the plan during the formal Council Meeting held on Wednesday August 18, 2010.
The New Maryland Recreation Master Plan will provide an inclusive framework for orderly and consistent planning; acquisition; development; and administration of the parks and recreation resources, programs, and facilities that support the health, wellness and vibrancy of the Village.
The Village first embarked on the journey of creating a Recreation Master Plan in January of 2009 with Village recreation staff taking stock of recreation services and facilities, followed by numerous consultation sessions with various key stake holders/groups in March 2009, which was followed by a public input session in April 2009. The Village’s socio-demographics, as well as the current and future trends in recreation were taken into account for the development of the plan. All the compiled information was then synthesized, analyzed, and interpreted for the development of the Recreation Master Plan.
The Village would like to thank the University of New Brunswick Faculty of Kinesiology, specifically the students in the Recreation and Sport Studies Program and their professor Cynthia Stacey for their time, effort and expertise in making the completion of the plan possible. Another special thank you is given to the residents and key stake holders who provided valuable input and insight during the consultation and public input sessions.
