You may have noticed that our Village flags have been lowered to half-mast.  This is to honor the memory of former Mayor Frank Dunn.

Frank was elected to Council when the Village first incorporated in July of 1991 and continued to serve our community with dedication and integrity for the next 24 years.  He held the position of Chair of the Finance Committee until he was elected Mayor in 2001.  Frank personified the concept of strong leadership through teamwork, optimism and a positive attitude.

As Mayor, he was instrumental in the success of many key projects, such as the construction of the Wastewater Treatment Plant and Water Tower, establishment of the New Maryland Fire Department, development of Applewood Acres, construction of soccer fields and parks, and many, many other projects.

Frank was always a strong leader for our municipal staff and helped to create our Human Resources Policy Manual and provided invaluable guidance and direction.

Frank was an advocate for our community and worked tirelessly for our residents.  Under his guidance and leadership, the Village grew and added services, while still maintaining one of the lowest municipal tax rates in the province.

His genuine care and concern for the other members of Council, our staff, and our residents was evident in every decision he made.  His perseverance and commitment resulted in the successful achievement of Council’s goals and his enthusiasm made him a pleasure to work with.

He will be profoundly missed by all of us.
