Chief Farrell would like to advise all residents that with the recent addition of Section 23 to the Renewed and Revised Mandatory Order from the Dept. of Public Safety, which relates to OPEN FIRES, effective immediately there is NO BURNING in the Village of New Maryland until further notice.

Section 23 states: “All open fires are prohibited until May 1st, 2020. “Open fires” means any burning where combustion products are not vented through a stack or chimney. This includes the burning of grass , debris and other woody material. It does not include stoves and BBQs that burn gaseous material or briquettes, CSA-approved screened outdoor fireplaces, wood fires for the purpose of boiling sap to produce maple syrup or burning under a valid permit issued by the Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development.”

Even if you have received a burning permit from Chief Farrell to burn in your approved outdoor appliance, you are NOT PERMITTED TO BURN in it, however, CSA-APPROVED propane appliances are permitted to be used.
