The mandatory order issued under the state of emergency due to COVID-19 that had banned all open fires was lifted May 1, 2020. Despite that, burning restrictions are still in place in the Village of New Maryland.

Residents who wish to burn must do so in an outdoor burning appliance that has first been inspected, approved and has had a permit issued for it by Chief Farrell. As always, there is NO OPEN burning permitted anywhere in the Village at anytime.

Residents who want to obtain a burning permit for their approved appliance can call Chief Farrell’s office at 450-8711 and make an appointment. Permits are only good for 1 year and must be renewed annually (at no charge).

Before you burn, please remember to check with the Government of New Brunswick’s ‘Forest Fire Watch’ webpage which gives daily updates regarding when it is safe to burn, or call 1-866-458-8080.
