Did you know that June 1st marks the Village of New Maryland 30th anniversary of incorporation? To celebrate this milestone, we are installing new banners along the highway and the flower “circle” at the Village entrance will honour this anniversary as well. In addition, the Village’s Recreation & Leisure Services Department is excited to announce that the Village of New Maryland will be participating in the Community Better Challenge from June 1 – 30, as we strive to be named Canada’s Most Active Community!
We know that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought many challenges and many of us have had to adjust to cancelled or virtual programming. Now more than ever, it’s important to find ways to connect with our friends, family as well as our community and the Community Better Challenge can help us do that, safely!
We are encouraging residents to log 30 minutes of activity during each of the 30 days of June in honour of our 30th anniversary!
Participating is so easy – download the “ParticipACTION” app, create a user name and enter your postal code and join the challenge – that’s it! You can log any activity – walking, running, biking, yard work, it all counts! You can join as an individual or as a team (up to 8 people). Any and all activity that is logged with a postal code within the Village of New Maryland will count toward our cumulative total (helpful hint: if you are reading this e-mail and don’t live directly in the Village, you can use OUR postal code at the Village office E3C 1K1 to be included in the challenge!)
If you prefer to log your activity on their website, you can visit www.participACTION.com to join the challenge as well.
If you are looking for some extra motivation, we encourage you to take a walk, stroll or roll along the New Maryland Highway sidewalks. Here you will find 30 “activity” stations for all ages and abilities. Bring your family, your bubble or your furry legged friend and help New Maryland celebrate our 30th anniversary the whole month of June!
Here are a few pics in case you’re curious…
But wait there’s more! Just by logging on and participating you will be entered into regular prize draws to win some ParticipACTION gift cards to spend at their online store – they have lots of great products to choose from. And even better, as a community, we will be “competing” with other communities all across Canada. The Community Better Challenge is awarding $100,000 to the community with the most participants and accumulates the most active minutes during the challenge. Wow!
