Babysitter Courses

The Recreation & Leisure Services Department offers several Babysitter Courses for youth ages 11 and older. Our next course is being held on June 26th at Victoria Hall, 466 New Maryland Highway. Click here for details.

Stay Safe Course

  • Stay tuned for a Fall date for our next Stay Safe Course.

A brand-new course offered by KCM (Canadian Red Cross Provider) the Stay Safe program teaches the skills to provide youth with a greater sense of confidence in caring for themselves and others when staying home alone for periods of time.  Responsibility, respect, accountability, following the rules, and dealing with unexpected situations when home alone will all be covered, as well as introductory First Aid.

Summer Day Camp (June 24 – August 23, 2019)

Welcome to all new and returning campers and their families! We are switching things up this year with some new themes and some different day trips – but don’t worry your favourites are here too and we are also pleased to announce that again this year, one week has been set aside for our “older” campers (ages 10-13) in August.  At the New Maryland Day Camp program, your child will enjoy lots of outdoor play, daily crafts and a variety of themed activities, as well as Thursday Day Trips, weekly “theme” days and most importantly, tons of fun in our our technology-free camps.

All staff are trained in First Aid/CPR and we will conduct our own in-house Day Camp training/orientation as well.  With our certified camper ratio of 6:1, your child will also enjoy personalized attention from our caring Day Camp staff.  We can’t wait to see our returning campers and we also hope to see some new faces this year. Get ready for another unforgettable summer!

Camp Hours:
Planned Activities run from Monday – Friday from 9:00am–4:00pm

Drop-off begins at 7:45 am and pick-up is available until 5:30 pm.

Additional Information:

  • Fees: $130/child per week; $105/child per week for Canada Day 4-day camp (until June 21st); $150/child per week; $125/child per week for Canada Day 4-day camps once camp begins (camp fee includes one camper T-shirt for the summer and also includes HST)
  • Week 7 – Ages 10-13 (Cost $115/child per week (early registration); $135 after June 24th)

Little Fingers Toddler Program 2019 (Summer Months Only)

The Recreation & Leisure Services Department’s Little Fingers Toddler Program (for 3-5 year olds) offers pre-schoolers a taste of camp within a nurturing and well structured environment. These camps are designed specifically with young children in mind. This half day camp is brimming with games, crafts, stories, and circle time, with a special theme for each week. The Little Fingers Toddler Program is a wonderful way to introduce your child to Day Camp and provides an opportunity for their creativity and social skills to blossom!!

Important information:

  • Week 1 – July 8-12 “Sports Stars”
  • Week 2 – July 22-26 “Music Makers”
  • Week 3 – August 12-16 “Wilderness Explorers”
  • Time: 9:00 am – 12:00 noon
  • Location: Weeks 1 & 2 – New Maryland Elementary School; Week 3 – New Maryland Centre

Tennis Lessons (July & August 2019)

Tennis Lessons – July & August 2019

Tennis New Brunswick and the Abony Family Tennis Centre are bringing tennis to you in your neighbourhood. It’s now easier than ever to learn to play tennis. Kids, teens and adults can learn to serve, rally & score using appropriate equipment to get you playing quickly! All classes will be delivered by Tennis Canada certified instructors from the Abony Family Tennis Centre. All equipment will be provided, including rackets.

 On Mondays and Wednesdays in July & August the pros from the AFTS will be offering Kids Tennis (Ages 6 – 12) on Mondays & Wednesdays from 5:30 – 6:30 pm and Tennis Express for Teens and Adults from 6:30 – 7:30 pm in the Athletic Park tennis courts.

July Dates:          July 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24, 29, 31 (Mondays & Wednesdays)

5:30 – 6:30 (Kids Tennis)

6:30 – 7:30 (Tennis Express)

 

August Dates:    August 6, 8, 13, 15, 20, 22, 27, 29 (Mondays & Wednesdays)

Please Note: Registration is for 4 consecutive weeks. Cost is $5 per lesson, or $20 per month. Registration is now OPEN and is by PHONE ONLY – 457-2382!  Spaces are limited for each class, and payment is due before the first class.  In the event of inclement weather, participants will be notified by “text” or e-mail and the sessions will be moved indoors to the Abony Family Tennis Centre.

Mayor’s Activity Awards 2019

Mayor’s Activity Awards 2019

An exciting awards program over the summer months which encourages healthy eating and physical activity for youth between the ages of 3 and 18.  This year the Mayor’s Activity Awards will run from June 3rd – August 9th.

Youth will receive an age specific chart via e-mail attachment when the program starts in early June. Points can be filled in for each task completed and upon reaching minimum point levels, participants can earn bronze, silver or gold medals. Same activities include: Have a pop free day, go for a ½ hour walk, do a family activity outdoors for 20 minutes, or try a new vegetable. 

Complete instruction and rules will be on the chart.  Registration opens on May 1st. Communication between the City of Fredericton and parents / guardians will be done via e-mail.
