Babysitter Courses

The Recreation & Leisure Services Department offers several Babysitter Courses for youth ages 11 and older. Our next course is being held on August 29th, 2018 at the New Maryland Centre.

Registration forms can be picked up and payment made at the Village Office (cash/cheque/debit). Please note we cannot “hold” a spot for your child. A completed form and paid fee will confirm the registration. For additional information, please contact the Recreation Department at 451-8508.

Welcome! We’ve been busy planning another fun summer of New Maryland Day Camps and we are very excited to offer some exciting new themes, returning favorites and NEW THIS YEAR, one week has been set aside for our “older” campers (ages 10-13).  At the New Maryland Day Camp program, your child will enjoy lots of outdoor play, daily crafts and a variety of themed activities, as well as Thursday Day Trips, weekly “theme” days and most importantly, tons of fun in our our technology-free camps.

All staff are trained in First Aid/CPR and we will conduct our own in-house Day Camp training/orientation as well.  With our certified camper ratio of 6:1, your child will also enjoy personalized attention from our caring Day Camp staff.  We can’t wait to see our returning campers and we also hope to see some new faces this year. Rest up and get ready for another unforgettable summer!

Camp Hours:
Monday to Friday from 9:00am–4:00pm with supervision from 7:45am–5:30pm* extended hours.

New Maryland Centre – Weeks 1, 8 & 9
New Maryland Elementary School – Weeks 2 through 7

Additional Information:

  • Fees: $125/child per week; $100/child per week for Canada Day 4-day camp (until June 22nd); $145/child per week; $120/child per week for Canada Day 4-day camps once camp begins (camp fee includes one camper T-shirt for the summer and also includes HST)
  • Week 7 – Ages 10-13 (Cost $110/child per week (early registration); $130 after June 25th)
  • *Additional supervision mustbe pre-arranged at a fee of $10.00 per child per day upon registration for late pick-up (maximum 15 minutes).

Little Fingers Toddler Program (Summer Months Only 2018)

The Recreation & Leisure Services Department’s Little Fingers Toddler Program (for 3-5 year olds) offers pre-schoolers a taste of camp within a nurturing and well structured environment. These camps are designed specifically with young children in mind. This half day camp is brimming with games, crafts, stories, and circle time, with a special theme for each week. The Little Fingers Toddler Program is a wonderful way to introduce your child to Day Camp and provides an opportunity for their creativity and social skills to blossom!!

Important information:

  • Week 1 – July 9-13 “Little Einsteins”
  • Week 2 – July 23-27 “Splish Splash”
  • Week 3 – August 13-17 “Safari Explorers”
  • Time: 9:00 am – 12:00 noon
  • Location: Weeks 1 & 2 – New Maryland Elementary School; Week 3 – New Maryland Centre
  • Cost: $60/participant per week (includes HST)

Tennis Lessons (June - August, 2017)

The Village of New Maryland will once again be partnering with the Abony Family Tennis Centre to offer tennis lesson in Athletic Park this spring and summer.

On Mondays and Wednesdays in June, July and August the pros from the  AFTC will be offering Kids Tennis (Ages 7 – 12) on Mondays & Wednesdays at 5:30 – 6:30 pm and Tennis Express for teens and adults from 6:30 – 7:30 pm.

All classes will be delivered by Tennis Canada Certified instructors from the Abony Family Tennis Center.

PLEASE NOTE:

To communicate with all participants in the event of inclement weather you will be required to provide your cell (text) number and or email. All classes will be moved indoors to the AFTC in the event of inclement weather.

June Session            

  • Monday  5, 12, 19, 26
  • Wednesday  7, 14, 21, 28

July Session

  • Monday  10, 17, 24, 31
  • Wednesday  5, 12, 19, 26

August Session

  • Monday  14, 21, 28
  • Wednesday  2, 9, 16, 23

Cost is $5 per class, with a minimum registration of 4 dates to a maximum of 8 dates in a one-month session. Registration will begin on April 12 for info and more details go to www.getoutandplaytennis.ca

In the event of inclement weather, the sessions will be moved to the Abony Family Tennis Centre.

Mayor’s Activity Awards 2017

An exciting awards program over the summer months which encourages healthy eating and physical activity for youth between the ages of 13 and 18. Participants just need to register and then start logging their healthy eating and physical activities. You will receive points for each task completed and upon reaching minimum point levels will earn bronze, silver or gold medals!

This year the Mayor’s Activity Awards will offer a “junior” (3-5), “kids” (6-12), and new this year a “teens” (13-18) category with age appropriate activities. A wrap-up celebration is held at the end of the summer with Mayor’s Woodside and Wilson-Shee to celebrate our medal winners.

Some examples of activities include:

  •  Have a pop-free day
  • Go for a one hour walk
  • Do a family activity outdoors for 20 minutes

The program will run from June 5th – August 11th with completed charts to be handed in by August 18th. This program is offered free of charge to all interested youth.
